Under his guidance, AIIMS Bhopal has achieved significant accomplishments on various educational platforms. The participation of faculty members in various conferences and workshops not only enhances their skills but also keeps them updated with the latest advancements. Recently, Associate Professor Shubham Atal from the Department of Pharmacology at AIIMS Bhopal was honored with the first prize for oral paper presentation on natural products/Ayurvedic medical system at the second national conference organized by the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh.

This conference, supported by the National Medicinal Plants Board of the Government of India, the Ministry of Ayush, and the International Union of Basic and Clinical Pharmacology (IUPHAR), was held until April 21st at PGIMER. The conference provided participants with an opportunity to acquaint themselves with the progress and latest information in the field of natural products and traditional medicine.

Dr. Shubham Atal’s presentation focused on the comparative efficacy and safety of Emree Plus and its reaction with metformin in a rodent type 2 diabetes model. For this research work, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has provided a grant of ₹2 million for a period of two years. The study involves the study of the combined use of allopathic and Ayurvedic medicines for diabetes management. The interdisciplinary team led by Shubham Atal included Professor Balakrishnan S from the Pharmacology, Ayush, Pathology, and Translational Medicine departments, along with Danish Javed, Sushri Saman Pathan, Professor Garima Goyal, and Megha Katari Pandey. AIIMS Bhopal advises caution in the combined use of allopathic and Ayurvedic medicines as they involve both beneficial and harmful interactions, depending on the drugs.
