CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: “A workshop was organized on measures to avoid the ongoing heatwave in the state. The Disaster Management Institute Bhopal organized the workshop in collaboration with the Inter-Agency Group, UNICEF, and various stakeholders. During the event, Mr. Prashant Kumar from UNICEF emphasized the need for water, explaining that thirst itself is a symptom. He stated that the amount of water needed depends on one’s capacity to absorb it. When working outdoors, water is needed every fifteen minutes. Dehydration occurs naturally when urinating. Water should be consumed immediately when feeling thirsty, as it is an indicator of the body’s water deficiency. He also mentioned that it is advisable to avoid going outside between 2 PM and 4 PM. If necessary to go outside, one should wear light and loose clothing.
Mr. Divya Surendran, a scientist from the Indian Meteorological Department Bhopal, reported that the heatwave is ongoing in the state and is expected to last until May 31. He mentioned that this year’s temperature has increased by 1 to 3 degrees compared to previous years.
Mr. Rajesh Sisodia, Deputy Director of the National Health Mission, stated that ORS (Oral Rehydration Solution) is being arranged in Anganwadi centers through the Department of Women and Child Development. He mentioned that multiple levels of preparations have been made for treating heatwave conditions, such as arranging separate doctors for children, women, gynecology, OPD, etc.
UNICEF Communication Specialist Anil Gulati, in his address, said that special efforts have been made by UNICEF for the prevention and treatment of heatwaves for children, women, and pregnant women. He mentioned that UNICEF has issued special posters in this regard. These posters provide precautions for children and women in extreme heat, and their family members can take necessary steps for prevention and treatment of heatstroke.
Mr. Prashant Pathrabe, Additional Director General of the Press Information Bureau Bhopal, stated that the central government has issued advisories to all departments for heatwave prevention. To prevent heatstroke, it is essential to drink water regularly. Several other officials also participated in the discussion during the program.”
