CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: To assess the quality of drinking water being supplied in areas affected by the Bhopal gas tragedy, a comprehensive inspection is being carried out by a dedicated team. This action follows the directives issued by the Hon’ble Supreme Court in Writ Petition No. 657/1995 (Research Foundation for Science vs. Union of India), under the orders of the Madhya Pradesh State Legal Services Authority and the Principal District Judge.

The monitoring committee, including member and representative Judge Sunit Agrawal, Secretary of the District Legal Services Authority, Rakesh Bajaj (Assistant Director, Gas Relief and Rehabilitation), Engineer Superintendent Garg, Executive Engineer Z. Khan from Bhopal Municipal Corporation, along with officials from the Madhya Pradesh Pollution Control Board, Public Health Engineering Department (PHE), and Ms. Rachna Dhingra nominated by the petitioner, conducted inspections in gas-affected areas. These included localities like Nishatpura, Shiv Shakti Nagar, Prem Nagar, Bridge Vihar Colony, New Arif Nagar, Gareeb Colony, Kaichi Chhola, among others.

Further inspections were carried out in other colonies including Sant Kawarram Nagar, Chouksey Nagar, Rambha Nagar, Ahle Adees Masjid, Shaheen Colony, New Kabadkhana, Dulichand ka Bagh, Ekta Nagar, Rajgarh Colony, Risaldar Colony, Karimbagh, Atal Ayub Nagar, Shakti Nagar, JP Nagar, Preet Nagar, Shankar Nagar, Shriram Nagar, Navjeevan Colony, Timber Market Colony, Chhola Mandir, Chandan Nagar, Laxmi Nagar, and Pratap Nagar, where the water supplied by the Municipal Corporation was tested for cleanliness and quality.

The team collected water samples from these areas to test the water quality and identify the presence of any harmful substances.
