CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: There is relief for Delhi University (DU) students over backlogs. Getting a back, or ER (Essential Repeat), in a subject does not mean that a student's entire degree will be cancelled. The university gives students an opportunity to pass the relevant paper again. However, to complete the degree, it is mandatory to clear all required subjects in accordance with the prescribed rules.
If a student is unable to secure the minimum passing marks in a subject or does not appear in the examination, ER may be recorded on the marksheet. In such a situation, the student has to take the relevant examination again. Despite having a backlog, in many cases a student may move ahead to the next semester, but the required paper must be passed before the degree is awarded.
According to the report, DU rules give students opportunities up to a prescribed period to clear their backlog papers. Students should therefore appear for ER papers on time in accordance with the university rules related to their examination plan, semester and course.
Getting a back is not the end of studies, but keeping it pending for a long time can create difficulties later in completing the degree.
