New Delhi: Delhi University (DU) has suffered a major setback in the QS Asia University Rankings 2027. The university has slipped 11 places from last year’s 95th position to reach 106th. With this decline, DU has fallen out of the list of Asia’s top 100 universities. After the rankings were released, the performance has become a subject of discussion and disappointment on the university campus.

According to the latest QS rankings, key indicators behind DU’s affected position include academic reputation, recognition among employers and international participation. In the rankings, academic reputation carries 30 percent weightage and employer reputation 20 percent. In addition, the number of foreign students, student exchange programmes and research impact are also included in the assessment.

The scope of the rankings has also expanded this time. A total of 1,722 universities from 26 higher education systems in Asia have been included, among them 195 new institutions. India has 325 universities on the list. This has made regional competition even tougher.

However, some Indian institutions have also performed better. Chandigarh University moved from 109th to 104th position, while Lovely Professional University jumped from 187th to 154th. Jawaharlal Nehru University rose from 130th to 128th, and Jamia Millia Islamia moved from 197th to 183rd position.

According to experts, DU faces the challenge of improving research quality and international impact, strengthening partnerships with foreign universities and enhancing its global academic identity.
