CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: New Delhi: Tensions have intensified ahead of the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections, with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) trading allegations of attacks and intimidation against their members and candidates.
Both student organisations have accused supporters of the rival group of engaging in incidents aimed at disrupting campaigning and creating pressure ahead of the September 18 election. The allegations have added to concerns over security and the overall atmosphere on the university campus.
According to reports, both sides have sought police intervention over the incidents. The accusations come as campaigning reaches its final stage, with student groups making last-minute efforts to connect with voters across Delhi University colleges.
The DUSU election has also witnessed disputes over campaign conduct and the role of political affiliations. The Delhi High Court has said that mere membership of a student organisation affiliated with a political party does not by itself amount to direct association with that political party, while directing authorities to ensure that the elections are conducted fairly and in accordance with applicable norms.
With voting scheduled for September 18, security and adherence to election rules remain key concerns as the campaign concludes.
