CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Monday arrested Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Deepak Singla following multiple raids conducted at locations linked to him in Delhi and Goa. The action is reportedly connected to an alleged bank fraud and money laundering investigation. Soon after the arrest, senior AAP leader Atishi accused the BJP-led central government of misusing investigative agencies to target opposition parties ahead of upcoming political battles. She alleged that the raids were an attempt to gain access to the party’s confidential organisational and election-related data.
The development has once again intensified the political confrontation between the AAP and the BJP, with AAP leaders calling the ED action politically motivated. The party claimed that central agencies are being repeatedly used to pressure opposition voices across the country. Meanwhile, ED officials stated that the investigation is based on financial irregularities and evidence gathered during the probe.
Deepak Singla has previously faced scrutiny in financial investigations, and the latest arrest is expected to trigger fresh political debate over the role of central investigative agencies in Indian politics.
