The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has taken major action in an alleged extortion and property-grabbing case in Mumbai. The agency has provisionally attached assets worth around Rs 4 crore linked to the family of Chhota Shakeel’s relative and alleged D-Company associate Salim Iqbal Qureshi alias Salim Fruit. These include the Lambat Building in Mumbai and money deposited in the bank accounts of the accused. The attached building is said to be registered in the name of Salim Fruit’s wife, Shazia Salim Iqbal Qureshi.
Allegation of threats in the names of Dawood and Chhota Shakeel: According to the ED, the accused used the names of Dawood Ibrahim and Chhota Shakeel to threaten the original owners of the property and obtained a stake in the Lambat Building by applying pressure. The agency alleges that Aslam Abdul Rahman Patni had acquired the 50 percent share of Yasmin Mohammad Ahmed and late Sherzada Jangrez Khan in 2019. They were allegedly threatened for this and no payment was made.
Allegation of property transfer through forged documents: According to the investigating agency, forged documents were prepared by misusing the identity of the property’s real owner. These included an alleged forged deed of conveyance related to the property transfer. The property was later transferred in the name of Salim Fruit’s wife. The ED alleges that through this process, property allegedly acquired illegally was kept in the family’s name.
Probe began from 2022 FIR: The ED began its money-laundering investigation on the basis of an FIR registered at Mumbai’s Dadar police station on September 22, 2022. Allegations in the case included criminal conspiracy, cheating, breach of trust and forgery. Now, movable and immovable assets worth around Rs 4 crore have been provisionally attached under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The investigation in the case is continuing.
