CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal:  The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Monday conducted a raid at the residence of former Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation (VVMC) Commissioner Anil Pawar in Mumbai. The action is reportedly linked to an ongoing investigation into allegations of corruption and financial irregularities during his tenure in the civic body.

A team of ED officials arrived at Pawar’s residence early in the morning and carried out searches that lasted for several hours. Sources close to the development revealed that the probe pertains to irregularities in awarding civic contracts, misuse of funds, and alleged money laundering during large-scale infrastructure and development projects undertaken under Pawar’s supervision.

Anil Pawar, who served as the civic chief of VVMC for several years, has been under the scanner for alleged disproportionate assets and questionable dealings with private contractors. The ED’s action comes after preliminary findings reportedly indicated suspicious financial transactions and unexplained wealth.

Officials have seized several documents, digital records, and financial papers during the raid. The agency is expected to summon Pawar and other associated individuals for questioning in the coming days as part of its widening probe.

This latest raid is part of a broader crackdown by the ED on alleged corruption within municipal bodies across Maharashtra. The agency has been actively pursuing cases related to civic misgovernance, particularly in rapidly urbanizing regions like Vasai-Virar.

More details are awaited as the investigation unfolds.
