CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: A joint review meeting of the Agriculture and Farmer Welfare, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry and Fisheries departments was held in the conference hall of the Commissioner’s Office under the chairmanship of Divisional Commissioner Karmveer Sharma. Sharma directed divisional and district-level officers to focus especially on the government’s priority schemes and ensure that prescribed targets are achieved within the stipulated time limit. For this, he said, an effective system of daily, structured monitoring and review should be developed from the field level up to the divisional level.
Divisional Commissioner Sharma said that under Farmer Welfare Year-2026, the objective of all officers should be to secure 100 per cent achievement in the implementation of schemes of agriculture and allied departments and make Bhopal division the top-performing division in the state. Every issue connected with farmers should be given the highest priority with seriousness and sensitivity, he said. Agriculture and allied departments should work in coordination at the field level and, through innovations, motivate the maximum number of farmers to become self-reliant.
Reviewing the Horticulture Department, the Divisional Commissioner directed officials to ensure girdawari, or crop recording, of horticulture crops in all districts. He directed continuous efforts to promote natural and protected farming, increase the area and production of horticulture crops, and complete scheme-wise targets within the prescribed time limit. Sharma instructed that, under “One District-One Product” according to climate zones, the area under guava be increased in Bhopal, onion in Sehore, orange in Rajgarh, coriander in Vidisha and tomato in Raisen.
Sharma directed officials to collect accurate field-level data on cluster-based horticulture crops and agriculture-allied activities area-wise in the Bhopal Metropolitan Region. He asked them to assess available resources and demand and prepare a comprehensive plan for setting up cold storages, food processing units, dairies and other employment-oriented industries. He also directed that maximum encouragement be given to small and employment-oriented agriculture-based industries along with the establishment of cluster-based industries related to agriculture, horticulture, animal husbandry and fisheries.
Reviewing the Agriculture and Farmer Welfare Department, the Divisional Commissioner directed that a wide campaign be conducted in all districts to create Agri Stack IDs for farmers and ensure farmers’ registration on the e-Vikas portal, e-token booking and registration of member farmers at the committee level. Directing daily monitoring of the availability of fertilisers and seeds, he said farmers should not face any difficulty. Strict action should be taken and FIRs registered against persons involved in the sale of substandard fertilisers and seeds, he said.
Reviewing the Animal Husbandry Department, Sharma directed effective implementation of measures to increase milk production, livestock development, animal health services, artificial insemination, breed improvement programmes and innovative schemes such as “Ksheerdhara”. He said animal husbandry should be developed as a true supplementary occupation to agriculture so that rural families can get additional and stable income opportunities.
During the review of the Fisheries Department, the Divisional Commissioner directed officials to ensure scientific and maximum use of available reservoirs, promote cage culture on a wide scale and ensure the availability of quality fish seed. He asked the department to expand modern fish production techniques and develop systems for value addition, processing and effective marketing of fish products. The Divisional Commissioner directed that fisheries be developed as an important medium of rural entrepreneurship, self-employment and income enhancement, and that the benefits of departmental schemes reach the maximum number of beneficiaries.
Joint Commissioner Vinod Yadav, Joint Director Agriculture Alok Meena, Deputy Director Fisheries Department Ramesh Sonkar, Joint Director Horticulture D.R. Jatav, Joint Director Animal Husbandry and Dairy Raju Rawat, and concerned officers from all districts of the division were present at the meeting.
