CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: General Manager Shobhana Bandyopadhyay has regularly issued directives during various meetings to increase the originating revenue of West Central Railway. Following these directives, under the guidance of the Principal Chief Commercial Manager and the Principal Chief Operations Manager, senior officers and employees of the Commercial/Operations Department have been consistently working to enhance rail revenue across all three divisions—Jabalpur, Bhopal, and Kota.
In the financial year from April to July, West Central Railway has earned approximately ₹2,778 crore in originating revenue. A breakdown of this revenue shows that ₹833 crore was earned from passenger traffic, ₹1,803 crore from freight traffic, ₹61 crore from other coaching income, and ₹81 crore from miscellaneous income. In July alone, West Central Railway generated around ₹655 crore in originating revenue, with ₹223 crore from passenger traffic, ₹403 crore from freight traffic, ₹15 crore from other coaching income, and ₹14 crore from miscellaneous income.
West Central Railway is undertaking the following efforts to increase revenue from passenger traffic:
Rail travel has been made safer and better for passengers.
The operation period of special trains running from West Central Railway has been extended.
Additional coaches are being added to clear waiting lists in passenger trains.
The duration of experimental stoppages provided in West Central Railway is being extended to enhance passenger convenience.
The speed of passenger trains has been increased through accelerated infrastructure work, with special attention to punctuality.
To boost revenue from freight traffic, West Central Railway is implementing the following measures:
The average speed of freight trains has been increased, thereby enhancing the capacity and infrastructure of different railway sections.
Operational improvements are being made in freight trains.
Improvements have been made in the working of goods terminals, and the detention time of freight trains has been reduced.
Round-the-clock loading and unloading services are being provided at goods warehouses.
Continuous efforts are being made to increase Gati Shakti Cargo Terminals/Sidings.
Infrastructure projects like new railway lines, doubling, and tripling are being expedited.
West Central Railway’s three divisions—Jabalpur, Bhopal, and Kota—are making continuous efforts to increase railway revenue.
