CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal  /  Mumbai  :  Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde returned to Mumbai on Wednesday amid the ongoing Maratha reservation protests led by activist Manoj Jarange. However, Shinde has not yet met the protest leader, raising questions among the agitators about the government’s stance on the issue.

Manoj Jarange, who has been spearheading the Maratha quota agitation, has been pressing the state government to take immediate action on granting reservations to the Maratha community. His protest has gained significant momentum across Maharashtra, with thousands joining in support. The delay in a direct meeting between the state leadership and the activist has left many protesters dissatisfied.

According to sources, Shinde is holding consultations with senior cabinet members and officials before making any concrete announcement. The government is reportedly evaluating legal options and the recommendations made by previous committees regarding Maratha reservation.

Political analysts believe that Shinde’s return to Mumbai signals that the government is preparing to address the issue, but the absence of a meeting with Jarange could prolong tensions. Opposition parties have also criticized the ruling coalition, accusing them of ignoring the concerns of the Maratha community.

Meanwhile, security has been tightened in several districts to prevent any escalation of protests. The state government has assured that it is committed to finding a sustainable solution that will withstand judicial scrutiny.

The coming days will be crucial, as the government’s decision could significantly impact Maharashtra’s political landscape ahead of the upcoming elections.
