CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: On the occasion of World EV Day on Wednesday, Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology (MANIT), Bhopal, organised an electric vehicle awareness rally and EV Expo in collaboration with the Urban Development and Housing Department and with technical coordination by Cities Forum.
The rally was flagged off from Govindpura Dussehra Ground and reached the MANIT campus after passing through the city’s major commercial and residential routes. More than 50 different electric vehicles took part in the rally, spreading the message of environmental protection. These included two-wheelers, personal cars, e-autos, commercial e-autos, electric pickup vehicles and environment-friendly electric buses. The main objective of the event was to familiarise citizens with the benefits of zero-emission transport and encourage public participation for improving urban air quality.
Additional Commissioner, Urban Development and Housing, Abhishek Saraf, said the state government is committed to building a strong, safe and environment-friendly mobility ecosystem suited to future needs through the Madhya Pradesh Electric Vehicle Policy-2025. He said policy incentives are not only strengthening clean transport but are also expanding industrial investment and new opportunities in the state.
Bhopal Smart City Development Corporation Chief Executive Officer and Bhopal Municipal Corporation Additional Commissioner Ms Anju Arun Kumar described citizen participation and innovation as the backbone of urban transport. She underlined that a wide expansion of charging infrastructure and adoption of modern technologies would play a decisive role in making cities pollution-free and achieving national climate and environmental protection goals.
At the EV Expo held on the MANIT campus, leading automobile manufacturers showcased their latest electric vehicles, advanced technologies and battery solutions. Major companies including Mahindra, Tata Motors, Hyundai, Maruti Suzuki, Kia, BYD, MG Motor, Ola Electric, Ather Energy and Simple Energy participated in the expo. The coordinated event reflected the shared commitment of MANIT Bhopal and the Urban Development and Housing Department towards creating a clean, green and sustainable urban transport system.
The Madhya Pradesh Electric Vehicle Policy-2025, implemented by the Madhya Pradesh government to promote environment-friendly, clean and sustainable urban transport, is positioning the state as a leading player in the field of e-mobility. Under this forward-looking policy, five major cities of the state – Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior, Jabalpur and Ujjain – are being developed as model EV cities.
Through the policy, the e-mobility ecosystem is being given unprecedented momentum by providing exemptions in registration fees and road tax for e-vehicles, incentives for expansion of public and private charging infrastructure, establishment of battery swapping facilities and identification of green transport zones. For the convenience of citizens and investors, an integrated information system has also been made available through the EV Tarang portal, which is proving highly effective in achieving ambitious green transport targets by 2030.
According to figures available in Madhya Pradesh, 15,838 new electric vehicles were registered in the single month of August 2026, reflecting a contribution of more than 5 percent to the country’s total EV market. In addition, as a result of sustained efforts over the past five years, more than 1,400 modern charging stations have been established across the state. This extensive network has emerged as a strong foundation for smooth operation of electric vehicles in the state and for strengthening consumer confidence.
