CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Electric vehicle sales in India delivered a strong performance in August 2026. According to data from the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA), retail sales of electric vehicles across the country rose 52.9 percent year-on-year in August to 2,98,448 units. In August last year, 1,95,250 electric vehicles were sold.
With this increase, the share of electric vehicles in total vehicle sales also rose to 12.3 percent, compared with 9.5 percent a year earlier. Electric two-wheelers played the biggest role in this growth. Their sales increased 67.05 percent in August to 1,83,204 units.
Sales of electric passenger vehicles also rose 51.9 percent to 30,696 units. Electric three-wheeler sales increased 25.28 percent to 79,846 units. Electric commercial vehicles recorded the sharpest jump, with sales rising nearly threefold to 4,702 units.
According to FADA, August 2026 was the strongest August so far for electric mobility in India. However, compared with July, total EV sales registered a decline of around 9 percent.
