CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Australian cricket legend Ellyse Perry will be seen playing for Hampshire in England’s domestic women’s cricket this summer. Hampshire has signed her for the first-ever Tier 1 tournament of women’s county cricket, which is considered a significant step forward for the women’s game.
Perry will be available for six matches in the Vitality Blast in July, and she will also be part of two matches in the Metro Bank One Day Cup. If Hampshire qualifies for Finals Day, Perry will also feature in that. She will make her debut on July 4 against The Blaze at Chesterfield, and will play her first home game on July 6 against Somerset at the Utilita Bowl.
Ellyse Perry’s cricketing record makes her a true legend of women’s cricket. She holds six T20 World Cup titles, two ODI World Cups, a Commonwealth gold medal, and five Ashes titles. She recently played a crucial role in Australia’s historic 16-0 win against England. Perry is also the leading run-scorer and wicket-taker in Women’s Ashes history.
She recently represented Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 2024 WPL championship and ended the 2025 WPL as the second-highest run-scorer with 372 runs at an average of 93. After her stint with Hampshire, she will play for Birmingham Phoenix in The Hundred, where she captained the side last season.
Speaking to the club’s website, Perry said, “I’m really excited to join Hampshire this summer. The club has been a pioneer in women’s cricket for over a decade, and it’s a privilege to be a part of the team at such an exciting time.”
Interim coach of Hampshire Women, Paul Prichard, said, “Ellyse is one of the best cricketers in the world, and we are thrilled to have her join the team this summer. Her experience and performance will offer a lot for our younger players to learn from.”
Perry’s signing comes at a time when Paul Prichard has recently been appointed interim coach, replacing Charlotte Edwards, who has now taken over as the head coach of the England Women’s team.
