CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: In Bollywood, Emraan Hashmi carved a golden era with his powerful acting and back-to-back hit films. However, like every shining star, he too had to go through some of life’s most challenging moments. Just when his career was at its peak and he was enjoying a happy family life, a heartbreaking news turned his world upside down — his only three-year-old son was diagnosed with cancer. The news was nothing less than earth-shattering for him.

After keeping this pain buried in his heart for years, Emraan Hashmi has finally spoken openly about that difficult phase for the first time.

Emraan recently appeared on a podcast where he talked about that harrowing time in his life and his son Ayaan’s illness. Emraan said,

“When my son fell ill in 2014, it was the most difficult period of my life. I can’t express that time in words. We battled it for five years, but I learned so much during those years. In January 2014, my son fell sick and our entire family was in shock. That moment changed my life. On January 13, we were at the Taj Hotel having pizza with our son. He went to the washroom with my wife and her mother, and they noticed blood in his urine. That was the first sign of cancer. Within the next three hours, we were at a doctor’s clinic, and they told us our son had cancer. They said we had to bring him in for surgery the next day, followed by chemotherapy. My life changed completely in those 12 hours. We hadn’t seen any symptoms before that. He was only 3 years and 11 months old at the time. This type of cancer usually occurs in children under 4.”

Emraan continued,

“When we found out, we couldn’t even cry in front of our son because we had to care for his mental health too. There was only one day when everyone in the family cried. After that, everyone held onto hope. The treatment included six months of chemotherapy and then five years of follow-ups to prevent recurrence. We had to get tests done every three months. I even wrote a book about this journey. I used to ask, ‘Why is this happening to me?’ I was very angry. As a parent, I didn’t want to be in the dark. So, I started reading everything I could about cancer. When I met the doctors, even they were surprised by how much I knew. I learned everything about the disease and its treatment.”
