CNN Central News & Networks / ITDC India ePress / ITDC News /Agencies/ Delhi: New Delhi. Problems for people in Delhi’s Bhajanpura area are not easing because of encroachment and disorderly traffic. Despite the double-decker flyover project costing about Rs 291 crore, traffic jams and encroachment remain issues on the surrounding roads. Roadside vendors, goods spread outside shops and illegal parking affect the movement of vehicles. Local people say it becomes very difficult to pass through the area during busy hours.

Encroachment on roads and footpaths around Bhajanpura Metro Station also causes problems for pedestrians. With no space available on footpaths, many people are forced to walk on the road, increasing the risk of accidents. When traffic pressure rises, long queues of vehicles build up and commuters take more time to reach their destinations.

A double-decker corridor of about 1.4 kilometres is being built between Yamuna Vihar and Bhajanpura Metro stations. It provides for the Metro on the upper section and road traffic on the lower section. The revised cost of the project is about Rs 291 crore and the target is to complete it by December 2026.

However, even after the flyover is built, it may be difficult to fully end the traffic jam problem if encroachment continues on nearby roads. Local people are demanding regular action, along with the construction work, to remove encroachment from roads and footpaths and curb illegal parking. Commuters hope the agencies concerned will focus on traffic management and removing encroachment so that the benefit of this project worth crores of rupees can reach the general public.
