CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: An Experiential Teacher Development Programme, a one-week experience-based faculty development programme, was inaugurated in Bhopal under the joint aegis of the National Institute of Technical Teachers’ Training and Research (NITTTR), Bhopal, Vidya Bharati Higher Education Institute, NCTE, New Delhi, and IUCTE, BHU. The objective of the week-long programme is to re-establish the Indian perspective on education and familiarise teachers with the practical aspects of Panchkoshiya holistic development and the Panchpadiya teaching method.
Teachers and educationists from various states of the country are taking part in the programme. Over the next four days, participants will visit schools run by Vidya Bharati in 31 districts of Madhya Pradesh and observe the practical application of the Panchkoshiya and Panchpadiya teaching methods there.
At the inaugural session, NITTTR Director C. C. Tripathi highlighted the innovative work being undertaken by the institute in the areas of value-based education and the Indian knowledge tradition. He also shared details of various innovations being carried out by the institute to make teacher training more effective.
Madhya Pradesh Higher Education Minister Inder Singh Parmar, the chief guest at the programme, said in his address that teachers should resolve, with positive thinking, to contribute to the reconstruction of the nation. He said the aim of education is not only to impart knowledge, but also to understand the student in totality and develop his or her personality. The teacher is the force that can bring about wide-ranging and lasting change in a student’s life, he said.
Special guest Kailash Chandra Sharma said that with the development of technology, the teaching-learning process has undergone major changes, but education cannot be limited only to technology. Along with the holistic development of students, attention must also be paid to the development of their character, mind and soul, he said. Ravindra Kanhere said a teacher’s work is not merely a job, but an important national responsibility.
In the first session of the programme, Govind Mahant, national organising secretary of Vidya Bharati Akhil Bharatiya Shiksha Sansthan, delivered a substantive lecture on “Panchkosh-based holistic development”. He explained in detail the concept of balanced development of the Annamaya, Pranamaya, Manomaya, Vigyanamaya and Anandamaya koshas described in the Indian educational perspective, and highlighted the importance of holistic development in education.
In the second session, Vidya Bharati national general secretary Honourable Deshraj Sharma held a detailed discussion on the “Panchpadiya teaching method”. He underlined various aspects of making teaching more effective, engaging and student-centred through the five stages of Aditi, Bodh, Abhyas, Prayog and Prasar. He said education should be in accordance with the needs of the nation and the expectations of society. Highlighting the distinctiveness of Indian values and the education tradition, he described education as a laboratory of holistic development.
In the third session, Meena Chandavarkar of NCTE, Raja Pathak of IUCTE and FDP coordinator Madhusudan J. V. expressed their views on the future of Indian teacher education and the role of teachers.
Vidya Bharati Higher Education Institute national organising secretary K. N. Raghunandan, national vice-president and programme coordinator Shashiranjan Akela, Meena Rajiv Chandavarkar, S. P. S. Rajput, Raja Pathak from IUCTE, Varanasi, K. Purohit, chairperson of the organising committee for this programme at NITTTR Bhopal, R. S. Chauhan, along with teachers, educationists and teacher-trainers from higher education institutions from various states of the country, were present at the programme.
This Experiential Teacher Development Programme is being organised as an important initiative to connect teachers with the Indian knowledge tradition, a holistic educational perspective and its practical application in the classroom.
