CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: A special lecture by Ashok Kadel, Director of Madhya Pradesh Hindi Granth Academy, was organized at NITTTR, Bhopal on the theme of “Constitution Killing Year.” On this occasion, Dr. Kadel shared his experiences from the time of the Emergency, stating how the Constitution was undermined and amended multiple times in ways that demand reflection.
In his lecture, Dr. Kadel elaborated on the challenges faced by the Constitution in the past and present, provided examples of constitutional violations, and discussed the critical role of teachers and intellectuals. He emphasized that the decision to impose the Emergency was taken by then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, and as a result, the people of free India became slaves to the government.

The freedom of common citizens was abolished, and for 21 months, all opposition leaders were imprisoned. He recalled how he himself was jailed and tortured despite being innocent.
Dr. Kadel urged participants to promote constitutional awareness among students and society.
C.C. Tripathi, Director of NITTTR, Bhopal, stated that the aim of “Constitution Killing Year” is to highlight such acts or amendments that are considered contrary to the core principles and spirit of the Constitution.
Such events aim to increase awareness about the sanctity of the Constitution, democratic values, and civil rights. This day serves as a reminder for citizens to remain vigilant in protecting democracy and upholding constitutional ideals.
The program was attended by faculty members, officials, staff, and research scholars of the institute.
