CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: AIIMS Bhopal’s Centre of Happiness held the inaugural session of its expert lecture series on the topic, “Holistic Value Education: Indian Knowledge Traditions in the Context of Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras and the Upanishads.” The lecture was delivered by Richa Chopra, Assistant Professor and Core Faculty at the Centre of Excellence for Indian Knowledge Systems, IIT Kharagpur, and a senior faculty member of Art of Living.
On the occasion, AIIMS Bhopal’s Executive Director, Ajay Singh, said: “At AIIMS Bhopal, we are dedicated not only to achieving excellence in the field of medicine but also to promoting holistic well-being. This lecture is part of our belief in integrating ancient Indian wisdom with modern medical education and practice. The teachings of the Patanjali Yoga Sutras and the Upanishads highlight how healthcare professionals need not only physical but also mental and spiritual balance.” He further added that value-based education helps in nurturing compassionate healthcare professionals who can provide emotional and spiritual support to patients, alongside physical care.
Dr. Richa Chopra discussed the importance of holistic education in the context of the Patanjali Yoga Sutras and the Upanishads. She emphasized that these ancient knowledge traditions are not only essential for mental and physical health but also guide individuals towards self-awareness and living a moral life. She inspired healthcare professionals and students to incorporate these principles into their lives to maintain mental, emotional, and spiritual balance.
The event was organized by the Centre of Happiness at AIIMS Bhopal, with academic support from the Rekhi Foundation for Happiness and the Department of Translational Medicine. Its aim was to highlight the impact of Indian knowledge traditions on holistic health and their relevance in modern life. Faculty, students, physicians, and residents of AIIMS Bhopal participated in the lecture.
