CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: An orientation workshop on eye health was organized by the Chief Medical and Health Officer’s office, Bhopal. The workshop, held at the District Panchayat Bhopal, saw participation from medical officers and community health officers. Expert knowledge was shared by Dr. Vivek Som, an ophthalmologist from Gandhi Medical College, and Prof. Bhavna Sharma from AIIMS.
Dr. Vivek Som provided insights on diabetic retinopathy and glaucoma, while Prof. Bhavna Sharma discussed ocular emergencies and corneal transplants.
On this occasion, Director Prabhakar Tiwari highlighted that under the National Blindness Control Program, glaucoma screening was conducted for 662 people in Bhopal district, out of which 101 were diagnosed. Additionally, eye screening was carried out for 48,711 school children, and 1,726 children were provided with free spectacles.
Information about eye donation was also shared during the workshop, encouraging people to pledge their eyes for donation. The health department promoted registrations and inspired individuals interested in eye donation to contact the national helpline number 1800114770 for further information.
