Mumbai. The Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) has ordered payment of ₹1.80 crore as compensation to the family of a couple who lost their lives in a horrific road accident on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. In the accident, the couple’s car rammed into a truck from behind. After the collision, the car was dragged along with the truck for nearly one kilometre. The couple died in the accident.

Considering the severity of the accident, compensation was sought in the case. After examining the claim and the available facts, the tribunal fixed compensation of ₹1.80 crore in favour of the relatives of the deceased couple. The amount will be provided with the aim of compensating the family for the financial loss suffered.

The decision also highlights the importance of legal relief available to dependants of people who lose their lives in road accidents. Accidents linked to speeding, negligence and heavy vehicles on roads continue to remain a matter of serious concern.
