CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Amid rainfall and the rising spread of mosquitoes, red rashes on the body along with fever may be among the possible symptoms of dengue. According to the World Health Organization, dengue can cause high fever, headache, pain behind the eyes, muscle and joint pain, vomiting and skin rashes. However, dengue cannot be confirmed on the basis of these symptoms alone.

Dengue symptoms usually may last for 2 to 7 days. During fever, adequate rest and preventing dehydration are important. Paracetamol may be used for fever on a doctor’s advice. In suspected dengue cases, medicines such as aspirin or ibuprofen should be avoided without medical advice, as they may increase the risk of bleeding.

To confirm dengue, doctors may advise blood tests as needed. Monitoring the patient is especially important even after the fever subsides, because warning signs of severe dengue can often appear at this time. Immediate medical help should be sought if symptoms such as severe abdominal pain, persistent vomiting, bleeding from the nose or gums, vomiting blood or blood in stool, and extreme weakness appear.

Not every red rash is a sign of dengue. Viral infections and other illnesses can also cause skin eruptions. Therefore, if rashes appear along with fever, it is better to consult a doctor for examination and proper advice instead of drawing conclusions about the illness on one’s own.
