New Delhi. A case has come to light in which an FIR has been registered against several MPs, including Congress MP Imran Masood, in connection with an alleged forced entry into the campus of Jamia Millia Islamia University in Delhi. The action relates to an incident during a student protest on the university campus.
According to media reports, police have registered a first information report against three MPs in the matter. It is alleged that the MPs concerned entered the university campus without permission. However, all aspects linked to the allegations and the incident will be confirmed only on the basis of investigation. A controversy emerged over the presence of political representatives and their entry during the student protest on the Jamia campus. In view of developments related to campus entry, security arrangements and the protest, police have taken action in the matter. The main demand of the ongoing movement in the university is the restoration of the Jamia Millia Islamia Students’ Union (JMISU) and the holding of student union elections. Students say student union elections have not been held in the university since 2006. Several students were protesting over this demand, with four students also sitting on a hunger strike.
According to reports, the university administration had filed a complaint against Congress MPs Imran Masood and Imran Pratapgarhi, and Samajwadi Party MP Mohibullah Nadvi. The administration alleged that the MPs entered the campus without permission and had a role in increasing unrest during the protest. Police have registered an FIR on the basis of the complaint. The legal investigation process into these allegations will move forward. Amid these developments, the university administration had also decided to conduct classes online, citing security concerns. Following the student movement and police action against the MPs, campus security arrangements and the issue of restoring the student union are under discussion.
