CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Fire Safety Week is being observed in all government health institutions across the district to promote fire safety awareness. During this period, activities such as oath-taking ceremonies, quiz competitions, poster-making contests, awareness rallies, and hands-on fire safety training for staff are being conducted. The week, observed from May 4 to May 10, is being organized under the theme: “Safe Schools, Safe Hospitals, and an Aware Society Towards Fire Safety – A collective effort for fire safety.”

Instructions for Inspection of High Electrical Load Equipment

Institutions are being directed to inspect the maintenance of high electrical load medical and other equipment. Special attention is being given to compliance with fire and electrical safety standards in oxygen-rich environments such as Intensive Care Units (ICUs), Neonatal Care Units, and Operation Theatres. Additionally, the availability of fire response plans and the proper storage and disposal of flammable materials are being reviewed.

Orientation of Health Staff to Handle Emergencies

Hospital staff and doctors are being oriented on fire safety measures, including the use of equipment during emergencies and the procedures to be followed during “Code Red” and “All Clear” situations.

CMHO Office Issues Guidelines on Fire Safety Preparedness

The Office of the Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) has issued instructions to all health institutions to review their fire safety arrangements. In compliance with these directives, physical inspections are being carried out in hospitals to ensure the availability of fire alarms and extinguishers, user manuals for their operation, fire response plans, and related documentation.

Chief Medical and Health Officer, Bhopal, Dr. Manish Sharma stated that efforts are being made during the week to develop health institutions in accordance with fire safety standards and to enhance awareness and training among officers and staff working in these institutions.
