CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: The first eye donation was performed at Bhopal Memorial Hospital and Research Centre (BMHRC) following the establishment of its Eye Bank. The family of Late Sewati Bai Yadav, a 95-year-old resident of Vasudev village in Bhairunda, fulfilled her pledge to donate her eyes, setting an inspiring example. Late Sewati Bai Yadav had already pledged to donate her eyes. After her sudden demise, her family took the initiative to honor her wish.

BMHRC’s Acting Director, Manisha Srivastava, stated that on Saturday afternoon, the family of Late Sewati Bai Yadav contacted the hospital to express their desire to donate her eyes. A special team from the ophthalmology department was promptly dispatched to Vasudev village in Bhairunda.

Within three hours, the team successfully completed the eye donation process. BMHRC expressed its heartfelt gratitude to the family of Late Sewati Bai Yadav for their noble gesture. This marks a significant milestone for BMHRC, as eye donation not only brings light to the lives of the visually impaired but also fosters awareness and humanity in society.

Dr. Hemlata Yadav, Head of the Ophthalmology Department, shared that the corneas donated by Late Sewati Bai Yadav would soon be transplanted to a needy individual, granting them the gift of sight. The team involved in the procedure included Aditya Sharma, S. Haritha, Nikhila Jain, optometrist Naresh Teerthani, and driver Rambabu.

BMHRC urges other citizens to become aware of the importance of eye donation and actively participate in this noble cause.
