CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: The Delhi Jal Board’s alleged sewage treatment plant (STP) tender scam has witnessed another major legal development, with a Delhi court granting bail to five accused after AAP leader and former Delhi minister Satyendar Jain was granted bail in the same case. The Rouse Avenue Court granted relief to former DJB CEO Udit Prakash Rai, former contractual consultant Ankit Srivastava, Nagendra Yadav, Raj Kumar Kurra and Pankaj Verma.
The case relates to alleged irregularities and manipulation in the tender process for upgrading several sewage treatment plants under the Delhi Jal Board. The Anti-Corruption Branch had arrested the five accused on August 18. The court questioned the circumstances surrounding their arrests and observed that there had been a significant delay between registration of the case and the arrests.
The court also raised questions about the allegation that certain bank transactions represented kickbacks, noting that the transactions had taken place through traceable banking channels. It further observed that the Enforcement Directorate had already investigated the alleged money trail without finding it necessary to arrest the concerned individuals.
Earlier, Satyendar Jain was granted bail on September 3. The latest order provides relief to all five accused while the investigation and legal proceedings in the alleged STP tender irregularities case continue.
