To prevent the sale of adulterated food items during the Diwali festival, the Food Safety and Drug Administration Department conducted a campaign in Deoria. During the drive, the department team checked and inspected different establishments and examined the quality of food items. About 65 kilograms of sweets were destroyed during the action, while 62 samples of various food items were collected for testing.
During the festive season, demand increases for sweets, khoya, paneer, oil and other food materials. Keeping this in view, the department team visited shops and food establishments and checked cleanliness, storage and the quality of food items. Action was taken as per rules in cases involving food items found suspicious or not in line with standards.
The 62 samples collected by the department have been sent to a laboratory for testing. After the test reports are received, action will be taken as per rules against the traders concerned if violations of food safety standards are found.
The food department has instructed shopkeepers to sell pure and quality food materials. Consumers have also been appealed to pay attention to quality and hygiene while buying sweets and other food items.
