CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: American football star Jason Brown left behind the glamour of sport and made farming his life. Brown, once among the highest-paid centers in the NFL, took up farming in North Carolina after retiring from professional football in 2012.
What makes his story notable is that he had no prior experience in farming. He learned farming methods by watching YouTube videos and gradually built his farm.
Brown’s First Fruits Farm has now become not just an agricultural venture but also a means of helping people in need. A large share of the sweet potatoes and other crops grown there is donated to local needy families and food pantries. According to a recent report, the farm has so far donated more than 2 million pounds of food.
Brown has eight children in his family and says farming helps develop values such as hard work, responsibility and discipline in them. According to him, farming gave him a purpose in life different from the fame and earnings he received on the field. Brown’s story has become an inspiring example of choosing a different path after a sports career and using one’s success to help society.
