CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Lucknow. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, addressing the ‘Techsangam 2026’ conference in Lucknow on Saturday, referred to an old case related to government land and said the land on which the Uttar Pradesh State Institute of Forensic Science (UPSIFS) stands today had earlier been occupied by land mafia. According to the Chief Minister, records had been manipulated to get the land registered in someone’s name, and the police at that time were unable to take effective action.

FIR registered after inquiry

The Chief Minister said that after the then Director General of Police (DGP) informed him about the matter, he called for the relevant file and ordered an inquiry. An FIR was then registered. According to Yogi, after the matter reached the High Court, a second FIR was also registered, following which the person concerned surrendered and agreed to return the land. The Chief Minister presented the episode in the context of law and order and the need for scientific investigation.

Warning over dependence on AI

At the conference, the Chief Minister also shared his views on the growing use of artificial intelligence (AI). He said AI can assist in decision-making, but should not become the final decision-maker. Technology, he said, must be used under the guidance of human judgment. According to him, amid challenges such as cybercrime, digital fraud and deepfakes, the role of scientific investigation and technical capability is steadily increasing.

Claim on expansion of forensic facilities in the state

Yogi said 12 forensic laboratories have been completed in the state, while work on six others is in the final stage. He also mentioned the availability of more than 150 forensic vans. According to the Chief Minister, DNA sample testing earlier used to take years, affecting investigations in criminal cases. Through modern laboratories and facilities for collecting evidence at crime scenes, efforts are being made to speed up the investigation process.

At ‘Techsangam 2026’, discussions are being held on subjects such as AI, cyber forensics, quantum technology and data security. The conference aims to link technological development with citizen safety, scientific research and the judicial process.
