CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Under the guidance of Executive Director Prof. Ajay Singh at AIIMS Bhopal, the Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology organized a special hands-on workshop on Forensic Update VII and Post-Mortem Microbiology. Conducted in collaboration with the ESCMID Study Group of Forensic and Post-Mortem Microbiology (ESGFOR), the event drew over 90 participants from across the country, aimed at emphasizing the role of microbiology in post-mortem investigations and strengthening practical skills.
Prof. Singh, the chief guest at the inauguration, highlighted advancements in forensic medicine and microbiology, stating, “Post-mortem microbiology aids in identifying complex causes of death, which is highly significant in forensic science. Workshops like these support practical skills and promote the latest techniques in this field.” He congratulated the Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology for this important initiative and appreciated ESGFOR’s support.
The first day focused on identifying possible causes of death through post-mortem microbiology, with special presentations by Anil Aggarwal from Delhi University, Prof. Arneet Arora from AIIMS Bhopal, and Nihan Ziyade from Turkey. Director Jayanti Yadav and Dr. Martha Cohen from the UK shared insights on the histopathology of sepsis and tuberculosis. Afternoon sessions provided participants with hands-on training in sample collection and analysis to reinforce theoretical knowledge with practical skills. The second day addressed challenges in detecting viral, anaerobic, and fungal infections in autopsies, with in-depth discussions led by AIIMS faculty members, including Dr. Debasis Biswas, Shashwati Nema, Ayush, and Karuna.
The two-day event concluded with a special recognition ceremony, celebrating collaborative efforts in forensic medicine and post-mortem microbiology. Workshop organizers Arneet Arora and Jayanti Yadav reflected on the seven years of contributions by Forensic Update, noting that this year’s program not only fostered innovation and training in forensic science but also served as an essential platform for academic excellence and national-international collaboration.
