CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Rajasthan’s Jaipur municipal election results have brought a setback for former Jaipur mayor Jyoti Khandelwal, who contested from Ward 110 on a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ticket. Khandelwal, who had earlier been associated with the Congress, joined the BJP in 2023.
The latest civic poll results have emerged as the BJP maintains a strong position across Jaipur. Reports indicate that the BJP has secured a majority in the 150-member Jaipur Municipal Corporation, while the Congress has won a significantly smaller number of wards.
Khandelwal’s electoral performance has attracted attention because of her earlier tenure as Jaipur mayor and her political shift from Congress to BJP. Her defeat adds another notable development to the ongoing counting and result announcements in Rajasthan’s urban local body elections.
The Rajasthan civic polls covered 309 urban local bodies, with voting conducted in two phases on September 9 and 11. Counting took place on September 14, with results emerging across municipal corporations, councils and municipalities.
The results are being closely watched for their political implications, particularly ahead of the 2028 Rajasthan Assembly elections. The BJP’s performance in several urban bodies is being viewed as a boost for the ruling party, while the Congress will need to assess its organisational performance and electoral strategy.
