CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: After a four-year absence, Fortnite is set to return to the Apple App Store in the U.S. next week, following a significant legal victory for Epic Games. A U.S. federal judge ruled that Apple willfully violated a 2021 court injunction by continuing to impose restrictive practices on app developers, particularly concerning alternative payment methods outside its App Store. The judge criticized Apple for obstructing competition and referred the company for potential criminal contempt proceedings.

In response to the ruling, Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney announced the imminent return of Fortnite to iOS. He also extended a “peace proposal,” stating that if Apple applies the court’s friction-free, commission-free framework globally, Epic would drop all ongoing and future litigation and restore Fortnite worldwide.

This development marks a pivotal moment in the ongoing debate over app store monopolies and digital marketplace fairness. It could lead to broader changes in how app stores operate, potentially benefiting developers and consumers alike. As the tech industry watches closely, the return of Fortnite may signal a shift towards more open and competitive digital ecosystems.
