CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: The CY-TB skin test has been introduced in Bhopal to assess the likelihood of tuberculosis (TB) infection. This test provides an accurate diagnosis of TB infection and confirms the presence of TB bacteria in the body. However, individuals testing positive in this test are not infectious to others but have a higher likelihood of developing TB in the future. The Government of India has set a goal to eliminate TB by 2025.

Under the National Tuberculosis Elimination Program, Tuberculosis Preventive Treatment (TPT) was recommended for family members of TB patients and other high-risk groups. The CY-TB skin test has been introduced for this purpose to detect TB infection accurately. The test specifically targets TB bacteria to provide precise results.

To obtain results, individuals need to revisit the health facility within 48 to 72 hours, where a doctor or health worker examines the skin area where the test solution was applied. If the test result is positive, Tuberculosis Preventive Treatment (TPT) is provided, effectively reducing the chances of developing TB in the future.

Key Insights from Health Officials

Dr. Prabhakar Tiwari, Chief Medical and Health Officer of Bhopal, highlighted that family members living with TB patients, healthcare workers, and individuals with conditions that weaken immunity, such as hypertension, diabetes, cancer, or those undergoing dialysis, are at higher risk of TB. This test is especially beneficial for such individuals. The test is conducted on individuals above 18 years of age. It is advised not to rub or scratch the skin area where the test is administered.
