CNN Central News & Networks / ITDC India ePress / ITDC News /Agencies/ Bhopal: CNN Central News & Networks / ITDC India ePress / ITDC News / Agencies, Bhopal: Headache is a common problem, but if it begins to occur repeatedly or its intensity keeps increasing, it should not be ignored. Common causes such as stress, lack of sleep and weak eyesight may be behind it. In some cases, however, headache can also be a sign of migraine, sinus infection, blood pressure or problems linked to the nervous system.
According to experts, there are several types of headaches. In a tension-type headache, pressure or tightness is felt on both sides of the head. It may be linked to stress, poor posture and sleep problems. In migraine, there is often a sharp, throbbing pain on one side of the head. It may also be accompanied by vomiting, nausea and discomfort from light or loud sound. In a cluster headache, very severe pain occurs on one side around the eye, and it may recur at intervals. Apart from this, cold and cough, swelling in the sinuses, dehydration, skipping meals and excessive use of painkillers can also cause headaches. In some rare cases, an infection in the brain, bleeding or another serious disease may also be the cause.
When is it necessary to see a doctor? If headaches are occurring repeatedly, have become more severe than before, are affecting everyday work or are not improving despite taking medicine, a medical examination should be done. A sudden, extremely severe headache, stiffness in the neck with fever, fainting, confusion, difficulty in speaking or seeing, and weakness in one part of the body can be signs of an emergency. In such a situation, it is necessary to reach a hospital immediately. Experts advise keeping a record of the frequency, duration, intensity and possible causes of headaches. This can help identify the correct cause and decide appropriate treatment.
