CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal : On the occasion of National Handloom Day, the Regional Office of the Central Bureau of Communication (CBC), Bhopal organized a seminar on the theme “Gandhi’s Khadi: Present and Future” at Gandhi Bhawan Nyas.

The seminar featured Sanjay Singh (Secretary, Central Gandhi Memorial Fund, New Delhi), Rajesh Badal (Senior Journalist/Treasurer, Gandhi Bhawan Nyas, Bhopal), and Vishakha Agrawal (Head of Department, Fashion Designing, NIFT Bhopal) as chief guests. Prashant Pathrabhe, Head of Press Information Bureau and CBC Bhopal, welcomed the distinguished guests.

During the seminar, Sanjay Singh remarked that Indian artisans are highly skilled and only need encouragement and protection. He emphasized that creating artistic garments through handloom takes imme

nse time and effort, and when compared fairly, these garments are not expensive. He also warned against the adulteration of Khadi and handloom fabrics.

Rajesh Badal said that through Khadi, Mahatma Gandhi led a movement that encouraged the use of locally made clothes. Gandhi carried this mission forward, and today, Indian Khadi and handloom are once again gaining popularity across the globe.

Vishakha Agrawal spoke about national campaigns like “Skill India” and “Make in India”, stating that these initiatives have brought new energy to the handicraft and handloom sector. She highlighted the significant role of women in the revival of handloom and used Banarasi sarees as an example to explain the importance of Geographical Indication (GI) tags.

The event began with lighting of the ceremonial lamp and floral tribute to Mahatma Gandhi’s portrait. Following the seminar, winners of the painting and quiz competitions were felicitated.

Notable guests in attendance included Deputy Director Shariq Noor, Assistant Directors Ajay Prakash Upadhyay, Sameer Verma, and Karishma Panth, along with Saurabh Popli, Associate Professor at SPA Bhopal, among others. The event was hosted by Assistant Director Parag Mandale.
