CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: GEMS Education has unveiled GR8 School, a new educational model that combines artificial intelligence (AI), specially trained teachers and industry experts to create a more personalised and flexible learning experience. Announced in Dubai on October 8, 2026, the initiative is designed to help students learn at their own pace while connecting academic education with practical skills and real-world opportunities.
The model will initially operate as a “school within a school” at an existing GEMS campus. The first GR8 School is scheduled for a soft launch in January 2027, with the organisation continuing to develop and test its learning technology, academic framework and network of specialists before the launch.
GR8 School is built around three key elements. The first is AI-powered, personalised learning, which allows students to study core subjects at their own pace. The learning system is intended to monitor progress, identify areas where students need additional support and provide further challenges when they are ready.
The second element is the role of teachers as “human mentors.” Using insights from the learning system, teachers will provide individual guidance, maintain academic standards and support students’ personal development. GEMS has emphasised that technology is intended to complement teachers rather than replace the human relationships central to education.
The third element connects students with industry professionals, practitioners and subject specialists based on their interests and future ambitions. Alongside academic learning, the programme will focus on critical thinking, communication, teamwork, financial literacy and practical life skills.
The proposed daily schedule combines self-paced study with approximately 90 minutes to two hours of teacher-led learning, followed by two to three hours of enrichment activities. These may include practical projects, specialist learning, sports, arts, collaboration and other experiences that support broader development.
GEMS Education Founder and Chairman Sunny Varkey said the model reflects the changing needs of young people and the opportunities created by AI, while keeping teachers and human connection at the heart of education.
The organisation expects GR8 School to appeal particularly to students who are prepared for greater independence and ownership of their learning. Indicative annual fees range from approximately US$8,000–10,000 for affordable offerings to US$20,000–40,000 for premium offerings, with final fees depending on the school, market and format.
With GR8 School, GEMS Education is exploring a model that brings personalised technology, teacher mentorship and real-world experience together, reflecting broader efforts to prepare students for further education, entrepreneurship and a changing world of work.
