CNN Central News and Network–ITDC India ePress / ITDC News Bhopal: To promote gender equality across all spheres of society and emphasize the necessity of gender sensitization among youth, the Women’s Studies Department of Barkatullah University, Bhopal, organized a Gender Sensitization Program under the activities of PM Usha. The workshop aimed to foster sensitivity, respect, equality, and an inclusive culture among students regarding gender issues.

The program was presided over by Prof. S.K. Jain, Vice-Chancellor of Barkatullah University, who, in his inaugural address, stated that gender equality is deeply embedded in India’s knowledge traditions and that engaging youth in discussions on gender sensitization is crucial for building a healthy society.

On this occasion, the Head of the Women’s Studies Department, Ruchi Ghosh Dastidar, outlined the workshop’s objectives, emphasizing the need to reconsider gender-based commitments, dismantle stereotypes and prejudices, and work toward gender sensitization and an inclusive environment.

Vipin Vyas, Nodal Officer for PM Usha activities and Head of the Department of Applied Aquaculture at Barkatullah University, highlighted the gender-related activities being conducted under PM Usha’s initiatives.

The program featured sessions by subject experts, including Soumya Saxena, Gender Lead at Gauravi (Sakhi) One Stop Center and ActionAid Association, Bhopal, and Anindita Roy, a psychologist and psychiatrist. They addressed topics related to gender sensitization, gender issues, and mental health.

A street play on women’s empowerment and violence against women was also organized during the program. The workshop was coordinated by Jaya Phukan from the Women’s Studies Department, who also shed light on the department’s academic and extension activities related to women’s studies.

The program witnessed active participation from university students and faculty members, making it a significant step toward fostering gender equality and awareness.
