CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: A two-day workshop on the topic “Application of Geospatial Technology in Natural Resource Management” was organized under the PM Usha Scheme in the Department of Geology at Barkatullah University, Bhopal. The workshop was inaugurated by the convener and head of the department, Vinisha Singh, who welcomed the chief guest S. Sarkar, Deputy Director General (DDG), Geological Survey of India, Bhopal, the distinguished guest Alok Chaudhary, Senior Principal Scientist, Madhya Pradesh Council of Science and Technology (MAPCOST), and Sadhana Singh, Dean of the Faculty of Science, Barkatullah University. They were presented with mementos and plants as tokens of welcome.
The inaugural session of the workshop was attended by 90 students, research scholars, department heads, and other faculty members, while 70 participants took part in the technical session. In her welcome address, Vinisha Singh highlighted the significance of organizing the workshop and explained how geospatial technology would benefit students in their future careers by enhancing their skills. She elaborated on the geospatial subject and mentioned that the Department of Science and Technology (DST) is promoting such programs in various universities to enhance students’ capacity and develop their skills.
Chief guest S. Sarkar emphasized the importance of the workshop in the era of evolving technologies. He highlighted the advancements in drone technology and LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) in geological surveys. Following this, Dr. Alok Chaudhary shared his insights on the role of geospatial technologies in natural resource management, such as watershed management, agriculture, forestry, and minerals. Sadhana Singh stressed the need to inspire students to apply geospatial technologies in their studies and research projects.
At the conclusion of the workshop, Vinisha Singh, the convener and head of the Department of Geology, delivered the vote of thanks. She expressed gratitude to the chief guest, all distinguished guests, resource persons, faculty members, and students for their participation in the workshop.
