CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: ‘Ghost Font’ Tricks AI While Humans Can Read the Message
New Delhi. Amid the growing capabilities of artificial intelligence, a new “ghost font” is being discussed for making messages readable to humans but difficult for machines. Instead of conventional letters, it uses dynamic dots and patterns of motion.
In ghost font, letters are hidden among hundreds of moving dots. When viewed as a single still image, the message is almost invisible, but when the full motion is seen, the human eye and brain connect the collective movement of the dots and identify the letters. This is why it can be difficult for ordinary image-based AI systems to understand.
The technology is being used in experiments to share messages that automated AI systems cannot easily read. It could also potentially be tested against automated bots and identification-testing systems. However, it cannot be considered a fully secure technology or one that is unreadable by machines.
In fact, in July 2026, a security researcher showed that reading ghost font does not require any advanced AI model. The hidden letters in a video can be extracted again through traditional optical flow and mathematical processes. This indicates that the technology may currently confuse AI, but it is not a permanent barrier for machines.
