CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Doctors at Delhi’s Swami Dayanand Hospital successfully treated an approximately 11-year-old girl battling a serious illness, giving her a new lease of life. The girl was suffering from Guillain-Barré syndrome and remained admitted to the hospital for nearly 83 days. After treatment, her condition improved and she was discharged from the hospital.
According to doctors, the girl was brought to the hospital with severe weakness. The illness had also affected her breathing muscles, due to which she required prolonged ventilator support and intensive medical care. She spent about 40 days in the ventilator ICU, followed by around 43 days of treatment in the high-dependency unit.
Guillain-Barré syndrome is a rare autoimmune disorder in which the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks the peripheral nerves. It can begin with weakness and numbness in the limbs and, in severe cases, may also cause difficulty in breathing.
The hospital’s medical team continuously monitored the girl’s condition. She was provided ventilator support, oxygen and other respiratory assistance as required. After her condition improved, she was gradually taken off the ventilator and was finally able to return home in good health.
