CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav reviewed the Fishermen Welfare and Fisheries Development Department and said that, as a result of the Integrated Fisheries Policy 2026, investment of more than Rs 9,000 crore is coming into fish farming in the state. He said work orders have already been issued for proposals received for 2,91,938 cages in the state.

Dr Mohan Yadav said pearl production should also be promoted in the state. For this, he said, best practices from other states should be studied and their implementation ensured in Madhya Pradesh. He said it is necessary to make the state self-reliant in fish production. The department should work with the target that, over the next two-and-a-half years, fish seed should not have to be purchased from outside the state. He said at least one hatchery must be developed in every district. Dr Yadav said easy availability of fish seed in districts would further increase fish production in the state.

Madhya Pradesh ranks second in the country in fishermen credit cards

Dr Yadav said that, keeping in view the increasing fish production in the state, a cold chain and other necessary infrastructure should be developed. Networking required for branding and exports should also be encouraged. He said all concerned departments should work in coordination for the revival of rivers and conservation of aquatic life. A work plan should also be prepared to develop the aquatic ecosystem and expand tourism activities based on water resources. At the meeting chaired by Dr Yadav, it was informed that Madhya Pradesh ranks second in the country in inland water areas under the Fishermen Kisan Credit Card scheme. At the national level, Seoni district secured first place in inland fisheries for the year 2023-24.
