CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News New Delhi: New Delhi, October 12: Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Monday urged businesses to use the India-UK trade agreement to expand investment and employment, with the two countries aiming to double bilateral trade by 2030.
Addressing the business plenary of the 16th India-UK Joint Economic and Trade Committee meeting, Goyal said the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement should lead to concrete commercial partnerships, not remain a statement of ambition.
The minister highlighted zero-duty access to the UK for most Indian exports and opportunities for services. He said India's manufacturing scale and digital infrastructure could complement British strengths in research, design, advanced technology and finance.
Clean energy and advanced manufacturing were among the areas identified for closer cooperation. Goyal also called for a wider range of exports and more investment in both directions.
UK minister Jonathan Reynolds stressed effective implementation of the agreement, while Minister of State Jitin Prasada identified technology collaboration as an important next step in the economic relationship.
The focus now shifts to whether companies convert the agreement's market-access provisions into orders, projects and jobs.
Reporting based on the Ministry of Commerce and Industry release issued through PIB on October 12.
