Model Initiative by Gram Panchayats Leads to Improved Revenue Collection

Under the guidance of the District Panchayat, Bhopal, the Gram Panchayats of the Janpad Panchayat have presented an inspirational model aimed at strengthening their own revenue collection. In line with the government’s vision, continuous efforts are being made to make Panchayats financially strong and self-reliant.

Regular meetings were held with Gram Panchayat Secretaries under the leadership of Chief Executive Officer, District Panchayat Bhopal, Ila Tiwari, and CEO of Janpad Panchayat, Shivani Mishra. Special monitoring measures were implemented to increase tax collection, ensuring systematic collection by gathering information on dues from families, institutions, and business establishments at the Panchayat level.

As a result of these efforts, 96 Gram Panchayats collected ₹3,19,99,160 (Three crore nineteen lakh ninety-nine thousand one hundred sixty rupees) in taxes by February 2026 for the financial year 2025–26. This achievement is considered a significant step toward being the best-performing region in the state. For the current financial year, a target of over ₹4 crore in tax collection has been set.

The success is attributed to the dedicated roles of the Sarpanch, Secretary, Tax Sakhi, and Gram Rozgar Assistants, who collectively transformed tax collection into a community-driven campaign, leading to a remarkable increase in Panchayat revenues.

The Janpad Panchayat will honor Gram Panchayats that have performed exceptionally, while necessary corrective measures will be ensured for Panchayats with weaker performance so that all Panchayats can improve. The revenue collected by Gram Panchayats is being used for construction projects, basic infrastructure, and operation and maintenance, thereby accelerating rural development.

This initiative has emerged as an excellent example of financial self-reliance and effective local governance, serving as a model for other Panchayats to emulate.
