CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Delhi: GRAP-1 enforced in Delhi, anti-smog guns deployed on city roads
New Delhi. The administration has intensified action to control rising air pollution in the national capital Delhi. With the first stage of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) coming into force, anti-smog guns have started being used on roads to reduce pollution. Through these machines, fine droplets of water are sprayed in an effort to settle dust particles present in the air.
When air quality worsens in Delhi-NCR, road dust, smoke emitted by vehicles and particles generated by construction activities are among the main factors that increase pollution. In such conditions, the administration focuses on measures such as sprinkling water on roads, controlling dust and monitoring construction sites.
Under GRAP-1, concerned agencies take steps to increase monitoring of polluting activities and ensure compliance with prescribed guidelines. Along with anti-smog guns, regular cleaning of roads and measures to prevent dust from rising are also part of this effort.
According to experts, measures such as anti-smog guns can help reduce dust at the local level, but their use alone cannot provide a permanent solution to the problem of air pollution. Effective control is also necessary over vehicular emissions, industrial pollution, dust from construction sites and activities such as burning waste.
Along with administrative action, citizens’ participation is also important to reduce pollution levels. In the coming days, the air quality situation and the impact of measures being taken under GRAP-1 will be monitored.
