CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Gandhinagar. The Gujarat government has tightened entry-related rules in government schools across the state to ensure the safety and privacy of students.
The Education Department issued a new circular on 21 October 2026, making prior written permission from the principal or head of the institution mandatory for outsiders to enter school premises. The instructions are aimed at maintaining a safe, disciplined and child-friendly environment in schools.
Under the new rules, every outsider visiting a school will have to record their name and other required details in the visitor register before entry. Only government officials duly authorised to perform their official duties have been exempted from the requirement of prior written permission.
Special permission will be required to visit areas such as classrooms, laboratories, libraries, hostels and playgrounds. In such areas, the visitor must be accompanied by the principal, a teacher or an authorised school official.
The circular makes prior written permission from the principal mandatory for photography, videography, interviews, audio recording and live streaming of students, teachers and school activities. Permission for such activities can be granted only for valid purposes.
School administrations will also have to ensure that students’ photographs, videos or personal information are not collected or circulated in a manner that affects their safety, dignity and privacy.
If any person enters a school without permission, refuses to leave the premises or obstructs school functioning through unauthorised recording, the principal must immediately inform the local police and the concerned education authorities. If required, action may also be taken under applicable laws.
Through these instructions, the government has prioritised children’s rights and the security of school premises. The new rules have been issued to regulate the entry system in primary, secondary and higher secondary educational institutions.
