Hailstorms accompanied by strong winds and rain have been reported in Barabanki, Pratapgarh and Sultanpur in Uttar Pradesh. Reports said standing paddy and sugarcane crops in fields have suffered damage. The Meteorological Department has forecast thunder, lightning and rain in several districts of Uttar Pradesh.
In the capital Lucknow, the rising water level of the Gomti river has caused more concern than the rain itself. Floodwater has reached homes in several low-lying areas, including Faizullaganj. Water has also entered the premises of the ancient Lete Hanuman Temple and Hanumat Dham. The administration has intensified relief and rescue operations in affected areas, and people are being moved to safer places with the help of boats.
The flood situation in Bihar also remains serious. According to reports, nearly 8 lakh people in several districts of the state have been affected by floods. With the water levels of several rivers, including the Gandak, rising, water has spread into low-lying areas. The administration and disaster relief teams are carrying out rescue and relief work in affected areas.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department has issued a warning for rain, thunder, lightning and strong winds on October 6 in several states, including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh. In Bihar, storm, rain and lightning activity is expected to continue from October 6 to 9. People have been advised to stay away from waterlogged areas and fast-flowing rivers.
