CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Ahead of IPL 2027, discussions have intensified over the captaincy of Mumbai Indians. Amid questions over the team’s performance under Hardik Pandya’s captaincy, reports have emerged about Rohit Sharma being handed the leadership again. However, Mumbai Indians have not officially announced any final decision on a change in captaincy. According to media reports, the team management is considering Hardik’s future and possible alternatives.

Talk of Rohit Sharma’s return

Rohit Sharma has led Mumbai Indians to five IPL titles. Under his leadership, the team won the championship in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020. In this context, the idea of handing him the captaincy again is being discussed. However, no official announcement has been made in this regard so far.

Questions over Hardik Pandya’s future

Hardik Pandya took over the captaincy of Mumbai Indians in 2024. Under his leadership, the team finished at the bottom of the points table in the first season, while in 2025 it reached the playoffs. In the 2026 season, the team’s performance was again disappointing and it finished ninth. After this, speculation over a change in captaincy intensified.

Media reports have also discussed the possibility of Hardik parting ways with Mumbai Indians. However, there has been no official confirmation of him joining another team or his association with Mumbai coming to an end.

Suryakumar and Tilak Varma also options

If Mumbai Indians make a captaincy change, Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma could also be possible options. Suryakumar has leadership experience, while Tilak Varma holds an important place among young Indian players. New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner’s name has also come up in discussions as a possible option.

Awaiting the official decision

Mumbai Indians face the challenge of deciding the team combination and leadership for the next season. Despite reports of Rohit Sharma’s return, the situation over the captaincy is still not clear. All eyes will be on the team management’s final decision and possible player changes before IPL 2027.
