CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya is highly unlikely to feature in today’s IPL 2026 clash against Punjab Kings in Dharamsala due to persistent back spasms, according to multiple reports. The star all-rounder has already missed MI’s previous two matches against Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and uncertainty continues over his recovery.
Reports suggest Hardik did not travel with the Mumbai Indians squad to Dharamsala and instead stayed back in Mumbai to continue rehabilitation and fitness work. Videos shared by Pandya on social media showed him training intensely for over three hours at Reliance Corporate Park, indicating he is attempting to regain match fitness.
In Hardik’s absence, Suryakumar Yadav has been handling leadership duties for Mumbai Indians, although even his availability remained uncertain after recently becoming a father. MI have already been eliminated from the IPL 2026 playoff race and are now playing for pride in their remaining league matches.
Punjab Kings, meanwhile, are battling for a playoff spot and currently sit inside the top four. A win against Mumbai Indians would strengthen PBKS’ qualification hopes significantly. Team members have admitted that MI have “missed Hardik’s presence” both as a leader and all-round performer this season.
