CNN Central News & Networks / ITDC India ePress / ITDC News /Agencies/ Delhi: Harmeet Singh attacks AAP, says voices raised had wings clipped
New Delhi: Amid political churn in Punjab, MLA Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra, who left the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party, launched a sharp attack on the party leadership at the BJP headquarters in Delhi. He alleged that AAP had initially presented a big vision for Punjab’s development and change, but over time leaders who raised their voices in the party began to be sidelined. He said, “Those who showed the vision themselves clipped the wings of those who raised their voices.”
Along with Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra, two other Punjab leaders, Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh and Chetan Singh Jauramajra, also joined the BJP. All three took BJP membership at the party headquarters in Delhi. Senior BJP leaders were present on the occasion. The development has come ahead of the Punjab Assembly election 2027.
Expressing concern over the situation in Punjab, Pathanmajra said his objective was to make the state a rising Punjab again. He accused the AAP government of pushing the state under a debt burden and failing to effectively control the drug problem. According to him, Punjab needs to be taken forward towards development and better governance.
Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh also criticised the AAP leadership and raised issues such as drugs, crime, extortion and corruption in the state. The move by the three leaders to the BJP is being seen as a development likely to affect political equations in Punjab ahead of the upcoming Assembly election.
AAP leaders have criticised the BJP over this political development. In such a situation, the round of allegations and counter-allegations between the two parties is expected to intensify.
